To be of Christ, to bring to Christ
as an expression of God’s gratuitous love for His people
The Institute of the Ursuline Sisters of St. Jerome in Somasca is a Catholic religious Congregation founded by sisters Caterina and Giuditta Cittadini to carry out apostolic-educational work.
The origins of the Institute
Caterina and Giuditta Cittadini, our Founders, shaped by a unique experience of human and Christian growth, lived in poverty as orphans.
Caterina and Giuditta, steadfast in their trusting abandonment to God and assiduous in their openness to the action of the Spirit, conformed themselves ever more to Christ Crucified, their “most lovable Spouse,” placing “their love in Him alone.”
… the educational mission has been expressed in a specific community dimension, in which sharing the “same spirit,” joyful and simple fraternity, and sustenance through the fruit of one’s own work significantly characterize the following of Christ.
We are called to be a credible sign of the values of the Kingdom, in the personal and communal following of Christ, chaste, poor, and obedient.
THE CENTER OF OUR COMMITMENT
Our mission
The “custody of those souls that our Lord has redeemed with his blood and entrusted to their care as a precious treasure” constitutes the center of our commitment.
Formation
By virtue of the educational charism we have received as a gift, we give particular importance to formative paths, especially for young generations.
This formation is attentive to the person in their entirety: it therefore takes care of both the human and spiritual dimensions and is implemented not only in structured settings or planned paths.
